Personal Style: Lanre Da Silva Ajayi - Fashion Designer

The trendsetting Nigerian designer Lanre Da Silva Ajayi popularly known as LDA has always been obsessed with designing. Having schooled and lived in England for over 10 years it was easy to be inspired by the people and culture. She started by designing and making clothes mainly for herself. Anytime she wore one of her designs compliments came running and this left family and friends placing orders for her pieces. According to LDA, “living in London was just right at the time as the city is infused with different eras, style, people and culture”. Though she has always been influenced by English vintage fashion of the 40’s and 50’s her designs are also influenced by her Nigerian heritage, she is indeed versatile and open to all fashion trends. Her designs are vintage classics yet modern, chic and trendy for the today’s woman.

The brand has been recently featured in Vogue Black, ARISE Magazine, Daily Mail, Essence.com, Fashion Bomb.com, Zimbio.com, WWD.com, ITN News, NTN24.com, ABCNews.com, Reuters UK and Centric/BET.

LDA produces six major collections every year and has showcased locally in Nigeria and internationally including the Thisday Africa Rising Festival, London (October 2008), ARISE Africa Fashion Festival, South Africa (June 2009) and the New York Couture Fashion Week (September 2009), Arise Magazine Fashion Week, Lagos (March 2011) and the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 Made in Africa by Arise magazine, (September 2011).

In January this year, Franca Sozanni Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Italia along with her team visited the LDA’s flagship boutique to preview her collections in view of possible assistance from the United Nations Fashion 4 Development of which Sozanni is a Goodwill Ambassador for.
Lanre is blessed with a lovely husband and two children whom she cherishes above everything else. She graciously lets us into her home to take a close look at her closet giving us insights into her very own personal style.
